What is workplace harassment?

Workplace harassment is any conduct that is unwelcome, offensive, rises to a certain level and is based on a protected characteristic. Even conduct that isn’t considered unlawful can violate your harassment policy. It’s also a form of discrimination that can have devastating consequences, both for victims of it and for your business as a whole.

Harassment can take on many different forms, so it’s vital that every individual understands the various types of harassment to prevent it from happening.

Different forms can include but are not limited to:

  • Hostile work environment
  • Sexual harassment
  • Quid pro quo
  • Telling offensive jokes
  • Cyberbullying
  • Intimidation or violence

Online sexual harassment training

Our course includes a module on the persistent challenge of sexual harassment in the workplace. After completing this part of the course, your team will be better equipped to prevent and respond to sexual harassment if they experience or witness it.

The sexual harassment training module covers:

  • What is sexual harassment?
  • Recognizing sexual harassment
  • Sex stereotyping
  • Sexual assault

A woman works on a laptop at a desk with a lamp, water bottle, and stationery. She is sitting in a room with yellow curtains and a window, concentrating on her screen. Another blurred person appears in the foreground.

Why it’s important to prevent harassment in the workplace

The most important reason for any harassment training program is to protect your people and avoid the risks that harassment poses to your business. In some regions, countries, states and even individual cities, it’s also required by law for organizations of a given size, and you could be penalized if you don’t comply. In addition, harassment claims could lead to expensive legal fees and settlements, as well as a poor reputation as an employer.

With the NAVEX Workplace Harassment training course you can:

  • Demonstrate the steps you’re taking to protect your people from harassment
  • Improve your workplace culture
  • Meet your state’s training requirements
  • Avoid reputational damage and legal expenses for handling harassment cases
  • Minimize the risk of incidents involving harassment impacting your business

Ethics and compliance training shouldn’t be a slog.
